Meet the Team

  • Gerhard

    Gerhard is an Occupational Therapist with over a decade’s experience working with people with disabilities and their families. He has worked with people of all ages with a variety of disabilities, including intellectual, physical, and psycho-social.

    In terms of experience, Gerhard has been involved with:

    • Setting up different models of support for people with high needs in the community.

    • Individualised, self-directed and self-managed support arrangements. He also has experience with larger support providers using more traditional service approaches.

    • Modifying the environment and finding the best equipment to set people up for success.

    Gerhard has and continues to volunteer on sub-committees, management committees and boards for not-for-profit organisations such as the Community Resource Unit (CRU) and Bespoke Lifestyles. He has also been a member and facilitator of Circles of Support for people with intellectual disabilities living in the community.

    In addition to having a Master of Occupational Therapy Studies from the University of Queensland, Gerhard has a Bachelor of Psychological Science (with Honours). In his free time, he enjoys creating planted freshwater aquariums and playing basketball.

  • Sonya

    Sonya is an occupational therapist with over four years’ experience as a live-in carer of a person with multiple disabilities (acquired brain injury/stroke). Her hands-on experience of living with and caring for a person with disability, makes Sonya acutely aware of the many physical, mental, and emotional challenges faced by people living with disability. She is naturally empathetic and understanding towards the needs of her participants, her participants’ families, and their caregivers. With work experience in both hospital and community healthcare settings, Sonya works collaboratively with clients to help them to achieve their greatest potential to work towards their goals.

    Sonya holds a Master of Occupational Therapy Studies from the University of Queensland, a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing, and a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours). Sonya’s interests include travel photography, research, home renovating, and hiking.
